Grayson Ammons Obituary, BEAUFORT, S.C. — Grayson Ammons, 29, of Okatie, South Carolina, has died after his body was discovered behind a Beaufort business on Aug. 21. Authorities have identified Ammons as the man determined at the property, while the circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.
The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office verified Ammons’ identity following the discovery of his body behind Randel’s Lawnmower Equipment Sales and Service, located at 1499 Salem Road, approximately one mile south of Boundary Street.
According to the Beaufort Police Department, officers were called to the location around 8:30 a.m. after receiving a summary of a medical emergency. Ammons was identified behind the business, authorities said.
Business owner Brian Randel stated surveillance footage showed Ammons in the company’s parking area at approximately 5 a.m. on Aug. 20. Based on to Randel, Ammons was seen moving around the property before lying down in a pit area, where he appeared to fall asleep.
Randel remarked Ammons later got up when vehicles started arriving at the business and moved toward the rear of the property, where he entered a fenced-in area. Ammons was not seen again on the surveillance cameras, and employees reportedly did not see or hear him during the following hours.
His body was eventually discovered Thursday morning when a mechanic went behind the business to retrieve a lawnmower. Officials have not released additional information about why Ammons was at the property or what happened after he entered the fenced-in area.
An autopsy has been conducted, but the cause and manner of Ammons’ passing have not been determined and remain under inquiry, according to Beaufort County Coroner Deborah Youmans. Beaufort police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding his loss.
