Jason Wilson Obituary, GADSDEN, Ala. — Jason Wilson, a District 5 Gadsden City Councilman and founder of Back Forty Beer, has died at the age of 46. City spokespeople said Wilson passed away Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, prompting an outpouring of condolences from city leaders, colleagues, friends and residents.
Wilson was remembered as a dedicated public servant who cared deeply about Gadsden and its future. Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford described him as a man who always had big ideas and said his passion for the city and commitment to its people would not be forgotten.
“This is a huge loss for the City of Gadsden,” Ford reported. The mayor also extended prayers to Jessica, Wilson’s loved ones, friends and everyone who knew and loved him.
Gadsden City Council President Kent Back also mourned Wilson’s loss, recalling his years of service on the council and his dedication to improving the city. Back stated it had been an honor to serve alongside Wilson for the past eight years and described him as someone who loved Gadsden and worked to make the neighborhood better.
Per to Back, Wilson continued to give to others even in his final days through his decision to become an organ donor. His choice was highlighted as part of the legacy of service he leaves behind and the impact he had on others.
Wilson’s wife, Jessica, was also mentioned by city officials as someone who understood his heart, vision and dreams for Gadsden. Officials said she is willing to serve the remainder of Wilson’s current term if appointed by the City Council.
The loss has also affected the District 5 election. City representatives said candidates Curtis Fail and Joey Nichols disclosed that they were withdrawing their names from the ballot in honor of Wilson and out of respect for his family.
Jason Wilson’s passing leaves a significant void in Gadsden, where he was remembered by city representatives as a dedicated councilman, local area servant and person with a strong vision for the city. His family, friends, fellow council individuals and residents are now mourning his passing.
