Deirdre McCarthy Obituary, ROSCREA, Co. Tipperary — Deirdre McCarthy (née Boyd), of Birr Road, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary, and formerly of Birr, Co. Offaly, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026, in the exceptional care of Millford Care Centre, Limerick. She had previously received care at St. Vincent’s Private Hospital in Dublin and was surrounded by her loving loved ones at the time of her passing.
Deirdre was predeceased by her parents, Dan and Rita. She is remembered with deep love and sadness by her husband, Ray, and her children, Daniel, Brian, Thomas and Kate (Collier).
She will also be sadly missed by her son-in-law Ciarán, daughter-in-law Claire, and Brian and Thomas’s partners, Lisa and Olivia. Her cherished grandchildren, Heidi, Sonny, Síofra, Sophie and Lucy, were also among those closest to her and will remember her with love.
Deirdre is further mourned by her brothers Donal and Paul, her sister Mary (Quinlan), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended relatives, and her many friends and neighbours.
Those who knew Deirdre remember her for her kind, fun and gentle soul. Her family and those who shared her life will carry the memory of her warmth and presence as they come to terms with her passing.
Deirdre will repose at Boyd’s Funeral Home, Birr (R42YF75), on Sunday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her removal from her home will take place on Monday morning at 10:15 a.m., arriving at St. Brendan’s Church, Birr, at 10:45 a.m. for Funeral Mass at 11 a.m.
Following the Funeral Mass, Deirdre will be laid to rest in Clonoghill Cemetery, Birr. The family has requested relatives flowers only, with donations, if desired, to Millford Care Centre. The relatives home will remain private.
The Funeral Mass will also be livestreamed on the St. Brendan’s Church, Birr Facebook page for those unable to attend in person. Deirdre’s loved ones, friends and neighbours will remember her with affection, and her kind, fun and gentle spirit will remain part of the lives of all who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace.
