Alexander Morelli and Doug Griffith Obituary, TOWN OF CHAUTAUQUA, N.Y. — Alexander D. Morelli, 23, of Meadville, Pennsylvania, and Doug A. Griffith, 51, of Massena, New York, were killed Thursday afternoon following a head-on collision on Route 430 in the Town of Chautauqua, based on to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 3:40 p.m. as the two vehicles were traveling along Route 430. Investigators said Morelli was driving eastbound when his vehicle failed to keep right and crossed the double solid center line into the westbound lanes.
Morelli’s vehicle then collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Griffith. The force of the collision caused fatal injuries to both drivers, and agencies said Morelli and Griffith were pronounced dead at the scene.
Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash, along with emergency personnel from the North Lake Fire Department, Sherman Fire Department and Chautauqua County EMS. Emergency crews worked at the scene as authorities secured the area and started investigating the circumstances surrounding the deadly collision.
Investigators have not released a reason for why Morelli’s vehicle crossed the center line. The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation, and authorities have not provided additional information regarding the cause.
The fatal Route 430 collision remains an active investigation by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators are working to establish the events that preceded the head-on crash and determine whether any additional factors contributed to the incident.
