Beverly Darlene Sawyer Shifflet Obituary: Glouster, Ohio – Beloved Community Member Remembered After Passing at 84

Beverly Darlene Sawyer Shifflet Obituary, GLOUSTER, Ohio — Beverly Darlene Sawyer Shifflet, 84, of Glouster, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026, in the ICU at Riverside. She was born on May 14, 1942, in Athens County to the late Ralph Sawyer and Elsie Smart Sawyer Gibson.

Beverly dedicated 28 years of her career to Good Year in Logan before retiring. Throughout her life, she was also an active member of the #10 Holiness Mission and the Jacksonville Senior Citizens, where she was part of the communities that surrounded and supported her.

She is survived by her son, Thomas Shifflet Jr.; four daughters, Cindy Shifflet, Rebecca (John Richards) Oskey, Jody (Big Dave) Dearth and Tammy (Jimmy Childs) Gura. Her relatives also includes grandchildren Carletta, Chris, Debra, Toni Lynn, Summer, Little Dave, Matt, Kristin, Chelsie, Landon and Tammy, along with 21 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Beverly is also survived by her brother, Paul Sawyer; sister-in-law, Helen Sawyer; and several nieces and nephews. Her relatives remembers the many relationships and connections she built throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Thomas E. Shifflet Sr.; her brother Ralph Sawyer; grandson Chad Eric Shifflet; great-grandsons Cameron Carr and Cameron McClellan; sons-in-law Jeff Gura, Tony Oskey and Rex Angle; and her stepfather, Jim Gibson.

The loved ones expressed heartfelt appreciation to the extended “relatives” of caregivers who provided support through OhioHealth Passport. Special gratitude was also shared for friends Phyllis Brooks, Barb Miller, Keith Drake, Brad Smith and Jayanna (Conner) Smith for their kindness and support.

A funeral service for Beverly Darlene Sawyer Shifflet will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the Bishopville Church of Christ, with Donald Hadaway officiating. Visitation will take place at the church on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour before the service on Friday. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Glouster. Arrangements have been entrusted to Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville.

Beverly Darlene Sawyer Shifflet will be remembered by her family, friends, and community for the life she lived and the connections she made throughout her 84 years. Her memory will continue through those who knew and loved her, and condolences are extended to her family during this time of loss.
